Elizabeth Cady Stantonová byla americká feministka a bojovnice za ženská práva. Roku 1848 zformulovala tzv. Declaration of Sentiments, první manifest žádající volební právo žen. Podepsalo ho 68 žen a 32 mužů. Spolu se svou blízkou spolupracovnicí Susan B. Anthonyovou vypracovala roku 1878 návrh dodatku Ústavy Spojených států, který zakazuje upřít jakémukoli občanovi volební právo na základě pohlaví. Dodatek byl však přijmut až po Stantonové smrti, v roce 1920, jakožto devatenáctý dodatek. V letech 1892-1900 byla prezidentkou National Woman Suffrage Association. Její nejznámější knihou je The Woman's Bible z roku 1895, ve které z křesťanských pozic odsoudila názor, že Bible určuje ženě podřízené postavení vůči muži. Kniha vzbudila velké kontroverze i uvnitř ženského hnutí. Před tím, než se vrhla na boj za ženská práva, účastnila se rovněž hnutí za zrušení otroctví. Jejím manželem byl Henry Brewster Stanton, jeden ze zakladatelů Republikánské strany. Podporovala rovněž tzv. hnutí střídmosti , které usilovalo o snížení konzumace alkoholu v USA. Napsala paměti pod názvem Eighty Years and More. Wikipedia
