Skupinu Clash založil roku 1976 spolu s basákem Paulem Simononem, kytaristou Keithem Levenenem a bubeníkem Terrym Chimesem. Dne 22. prosince 2002 ve svém domě zemřel na vrozenou srdeční vadu.
