Mark Rothko byl americký malíř lotyšského původu. Narodil se v dnešním Lotyšsku v židovské rodině jako Marcus Rothkowitz. Jeho malby jsou převážně abstraktní, Rothko byl průkopník tzv. malířství barevných ploch. Je jedním z představitelů abstraktního expresionismu. Wikipedia
