Serge Lang byl francouzský matematik, člen skupiny Nicolas Bourbaki. Je známý především díky práci v oblasti teorie čísel a jako autor několika známých matematických učebnic. V době svého úmrtí působil jako emeritní profesor na Yaleově univerzitě.

Lang také pracoval v teorii polí a v oblasti diofantických aproximací, v teorii transcendentních čísel poupravil výsledky Theodora Schneidera, dnes známé jako Schneiderova-Langova věta. Zformuloval také množství domněnek v oblasti diofantické geometrie. Byl také aktivním odpůrcem války ve Vietnamu. Wikipedia

This is part of Lang's campaign in his attempt to discredit the results of The 1977 survey of the American professoriate published in 1979 by Everett C Ladd and Seymour M Lipsett. In 1981 Lang published The File: Case Study in Correction (1977-1979) which consists of copies of correspondence concerning the survey. In this quote from The File Lang sets out why he fought that campaign.
