Theo van Doesburg, vlastním jménem Christian Emil Marie Küpper byl všestranný nizozemský umělec a teoretik umění. Proslul jako jeden z nejdůležitějších propagátorů abstraktního umění 20. století. Byl zakladatelem vlivného časopisu De Stijl. Vedle výtvarného umění vynikl Van Doesburg jako básník, romanopisec, grafik, návrhář a architekt. Van Doesburg propagoval v rámci neoplasticismu vizi světa, ve kterém umění bude hrát více povznášející, apolitickou roli. To také vysvětluje jeho kontakty s mezinárodní avantgardou. Wikipedia
