Gertrude Belle Elionová, anglicky Gertrude Belle Elion byla americká biochemička a farmakoložka, držitelka Nobelovy cenu za fyziologii a medicínu za rok 1988.

Byla dcera židovských emigrantů. Věnovala se výzkumu léků leukémie, AIDS a jiných. V roce 1937 studovala na Hunterově Akademii a v roce 1941 na Newyorské univerzitě. Nemohla se stát výzkumným pracovníkem kvůli svému ženskému pohlaví. Pracovala proto jako laborantka a středoškolská učitelka před tím, než se stala asistentkou u George H. Hitchingse ve farmaceutické společnosti Burroughs-Wellcome . Nikdy neobdržela oficiálně titul Ph.D., ale byla později odměněna Honorus cause titulem Doktor filosofie od George Washington University.

Pracovala sama, později s doktory Hitchingsem a Elionem, se kterými vynalezla lék mnohostranně použitelný, například proti leukémii, s nimiž pak byla odměněna Nobelovou cenou. Cílem snažení byl především lék proti AIDS a AZT. Wikipedia
