Rex Todhunter Stout byl americký spisovatel, autor detektivních románů. Proslul především svými romány s Nero Wolfem a jeho asistentem Archie Goodwinem. Prvním románem s těmito postavami byl Zmije hraje golf a posledním Rodinná záležitost . Je řazen ke klasikům amerického detektivního románu. Podle jeho knih bylo vytvořeno mnoho rozhlasových her, natočeno několik filmů a televizních seriálů, např. seriály Nero Wolfe a A Nero Wolfe Mystery .
