Za knihu Collected Poems získal roku 1955 americkou Pulitzerovu cenu. Literární teorie v jeho díle nalézala souvislosti s Husserlovou a Heideggerovou fenomenologií, Friedrichem Nietzschem či hermetismem. Politicky patřil k pravici, podporoval Republikánskou stranu. Wikipedia
