Carl Philipp Gottlieb von Clausewitz byl pruský generál a válečný teoretik. Je nejlépe známý svou knihou O válce, kterou po jeho smrti vydala jeho manželka. Byl zastáncem termínu "vojenské umění" místo "vojenské vědy" a analyzoval útoky a obranu, přičemž tvrdil, že obrana je efektivnějším způsobem válečných aktivit. Je mu připisováno, že válka je pouze pokračování politiky jinými prostředky a pojmu "válečná mlha".
Zemřel na choleru v roce 1831 a byl původně pohřben na vojenském hřbitově ve Vratislavi. V roce 1971 bylo na žádost východoněmecké vlády jeho ostatky přeneseny do jeho rodného města.
