„Láska není více než vášeň posvěcená citátem.“

„Člověk - síla zušlechtěná jiskrou ducha myslícího, posvěceného utrpením, zmohutnělá sny a prací.“

„Svatost je posvěcení obyčejného života.“

„Moje posvěcení nespočívá ve sčítání, ale v odčítaní: Méně mě, více Boha.“

Originál: (en) Happy are they, who in the matter of marriage observe three rules. The first is to marry only in the Lord, and after prayer for God’s approval and blessing. The second is not to expect too much from their partners, and to remember that marriage is, after all, the union of two sinners, and not of two angels. The third rule is to strive first and foremost for one another’s sanctification. The more holy married people are, the happier they are.

„Na prvním místě je posvěcení duše a všechno ostatní je až druhořadé.“
Originál: (en) The unsound convert takes Christ by halves. He is all for the salvation of Christ, but is not for sanctification. He is for the privileges, but does not appropriate the person of Christ.

Originál: (en) It is indeed to be desired that solid scriptural theology (…) should be valued in the church. Books in which Scripture is reverently regarded as the only rule of faith and practice — books in which Christ and the Holy Ghost have their rightful office — books in which justification, and sanctification, and regeneration, and faith, and grace, and holiness are clearly, distinctly, and accurately delineated and exhibited, these are the only books which do real good. Few things need reviving more than a taste for such books as these among readers.

Originál: (en) God never saved any man for being a preacher, nor because he was an able preacher; but because he was a justified, sanctified man, and consequently faithful in his Master’s work. Take heed, therefore, to yourselves first, that you be that which you persuade your hearers to be, and believe that which you persuade them to believe, and heartily entertain that Savior whom you offer to them.

Originál: (en) The very design of the gospel doth tend to self-abasing; and the work of grace is begun and carried on in humiliation. Humility is not a mere ornament of a Christian, but an essential part of the new creature: it is a contradiction to be a sanctified man, or a true Christian, and not humble.

Originál: (en) There is a great deal of difference between the desires of Heaven in a sanctified man and an unsanctified. The believer prizeth it above earth, and had rather be with God then here. (…) But to the ungodly there is nothing seemeth more desirable then this world: and therefore he only chooseth heaven before hell, but not before earth; and therefore shall not have it upon such a choice.
